Shirley poppies (Papaver rhoeas). Annual. The shirley poppy is a type of corn poppy, also known as flanders poppies. The petals remind me of crepe paper and others of billowy petticoats. They come in pastel pinks, yellows, oranges, and white. This plant grows to 18". It needs full sun, well drained soil, water when dry, but do not overwater it. It blooms from late spring to mid-summer providing a long season of pretty blooms. I have seen reference that some parts of this plant are poisonous, so do not consume or let others consume this plant. Sow after all danger of frost outside for best results. Shirley poppies do not like their roots disturbed and are best sown in the place they are to grow.
